Wassily Kandinsky

1866 – 1944

Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist who is widely regarded as one of the pioneers and founders of abstract art. Born in Moscow, he studied law and economics before deciding to pursue painting in his 30s. Kandinsky's early works were influenced by Fauvism and Expressionism, featuring vibrant colors and spiritual motifs.

However, his most significant contributions were his groundbreaking explorations into pure abstraction in the 1910s, creating paintings that abandoned representational imagery in favor of geometric shapes, lines, and colors meant to evoke emotional and spiritual responses in the viewer.
